Not sure what area of the forums to post this so I thought I'd try here...

Anybody from Lower, MI, northern IN or NW Ohio? Would like to find someone that has a similar setup that I am planning on doing on a 1st gen Camaro.

Let me know what you have and location
Thanks

Dumb question, but what do you plan on doing?

buckmiz, I had actually swapped emails with your buddy Jim a couple days ago. Anyway, here's some basic plans for me at this point... The car right now is stripped down to bare shell and subframe is completely disassembed. I plan on having the shell dipped to strip it off clean (alkaline dip, a place in Toledo, OH does it). Suspension upgrade plans at this point is new Bilstein or KYB shocks all around, 1 1/2" drop in the rear, 2" drop in front, Hotchkis 1 1/8" sway bar, and Poly bushings all the way around. Going to put in a tight steering box (around a 2.5 lock to lock). Have a Wilwood Dynalite 4 pistons front disc kit already, will be putting discs in the rear as well. Would like to go with 18" x 8" wheels up front and 18" x 9.5" wheels in back if I can get away with it. Want to keep stock rear fender wells. Motor will likely be a SB like a 383 or similar (might just try doing a LS1???). Undecided on transmission at this point... possibly 4 speed Manual or may just stick with an Auto. Other than the normal body work and paint that's about the most of it except for upgraded seats and instrumentation.

Thanks

I'm looking at doing a very similuar restore. Can I ask what you are paying for the dip?

Still tryig to finailze the options to go with but they'll be close to yours. My car is currently on the roto, so I'm close to the same point as you.

The metal cleaning place gave me a quote of $1200 to $1400 to do the body shell, that's taking all paint, rust, primer, gunk, grime and sealants off the car.

That must be the going price. I talked to the people at American Metal Cleaning in Cincinnati last month about that very thing. I was picking up some parts that I had power coated and I asked what the price was for the complete body dip now. I was told it was $1200 and there was a 3 month wait. I had some parts dipped about 5 years ago, and the cost was $700 then.

Hey BuddyP

I'm in the Ann Arbor area. Just starting to look at getting my '68 back on the road. I did most of the early work on this while living north of here and I was pretty plugged in to the shops in the Flint area at the time, however that was many years ago. I am now in search of some shops in the SE Michigan area that do good work on trannys and rear ends.

I have a TH400 and am debating on rebuild or swap out to 4 speed as the car originally came with a 3 speed and would like to know of a good shop to check this with. Also have a 12 Bolt .488 (way too tall!!). It needs a new gear and other re-build work.

Have you come across anyone you would recommend?

Also if you are undecided on your powerplant and might be interested in a 327 out of a '68, I work with a guy who might want to sell one.
