Is there an easy way to drain the gas tank, for removal of the tank? The repair manual states to drop a hose into it, with some kind of fitting on it, and to slit the hose and blow compressed air through the slit, thereby pulling the gas out by vacum?
there shouldn't be much fuel in it, could i not just disconnect the fuel line, and let it drain out?
If i must get a fitting, what kind would it be?
sorry for such a dumb question, but i couldn't find an answer in past posts.

The "easiest" way is to park facing downhill, and pull the supply line off the fuel pump. The gas will siphon out no problem, but might take a while.

Or stick a cut up peice of garden hose in the tank and start the syphon, chevy's way doesn't taste as bad as my usual way.

If you are concerned about the safety issues of syphoning, you can buy a hand pump syphon at most any hardware store for about 5 bucks. Don't use an electric or drill operated pump for obvious reasons. We wouldn't want your Camaro to get hurt.

Why not just have some fun and take the camaro out on a remote twisty road and open her up and practice some launches! The tank will be empty in an hour or so.

Well, i'd love nothing more than to do just that, for more than just drainin the tank too :) but it's been sitting for about 5 years, and right now is on jack stands being disassembled, but man what i wouldn't give to take her out. Hopefully in a few years
I'll look into the hand pump siphon, thanks.

Siphoning gas is easy to do on the 1st generation cars.

When I took mine out it was about 1/4 to 1/2 full....I put a floor jack under it....disconnected everything and just gently lowered it down without draining it...after it was on the ground getting the fuel out was easy.....

I slide a hose in the tank and blow on it to hear bubbles so I know I'm in the gas. Then I wrap a shop rag around the hose and slide it up to the filler neck to make a loose seal. Insert the nozzle of your air gun along the hose and blow to pressurize the tank. The gas will come out the hose. Remove the rag and it will continue to siphon.
