What is the part number that is on the diverter valve for a 69 smog setup? Where is the best place to get a smog pump setup reconditioned? Thanks.

Bill Hodel (330-832-0871) in Ohio is the leading expert on smog systems and restores them correctly. Otherwise Jerry MacNeish at www.z28camaro.com Gambitt Apr 7th, 05, 11:29 AM Thanks Jonesy...I will give him a call. I have a smog pump and have found a diverter valve. How hard is it to restore the smog pump myself? What all goes into making the smog setup "non-functional?" Thanks for all the help. Gambitt Jonesy Apr 7th, 05, 02:33 PM Hodel is a very reasonable guy and can help you with that also. I think Jerry is a bit more spendy. I am not sure how to make it non functional, but Bill can help you out. sandiegoz28 Apr 7th, 05, 09:48 PM I had my Chevelle's smog system restored to be non-functional. It's quite simple - the smog pump itself is hollow, that is it doesn't have the pump inside, just the shaft. So by not compressing air, the system doesn't drain as much HP...the draw back though, is the smog tubes get hotter near the manifolds. Also, do not install the A.I.R. injector reactor tubes in the exhaust manifolds - without the cool pump air, they'd probably just burn-up. From an appearance prespective, you cannot tell it's non-functional. drdave69 Apr 8th, 05, 05:37 AM I also had my smog pump gutted. JOHNZ had a few other suggestions on how to make the entire system non-functional. In the vacuum line to the diverter valve, insert a BB to block air flow. Instead of installing the smog tube extensions, find some conical head screws to replace them (this will prevent the exhaust gases from entering the the system. Gambitt Apr 8th, 05, 10:29 AM Yeah, I thought about turning out some solid pieces of steel on a lathe, that are the same shape as the smog tube extensions to block the exhaust gas. Thanks for all the recommendations. It doesn't sound all that hard. I guess I will basically just need someone to restore the diverter valve I have...make it pretty again:) Gambitt xramcamaro2 Apr 19th, 07, 05:46 AM Bill hodel is one of the finest smog guys in the country. Very reasonably priced, a winful of information. I use him for all my cars, corvettes, chevelles and the ultimate camaros. His phone # is 330-832-0871 and tell him harry from NJ sent ya. Kurt S Apr 19th, 07, 07:55 PM And back to the original question, the part # depends on the application. http://www.camaros.org/emissions.shtml Gambitt Apr 20th, 07, 05:48 AM I still haven't located an original smog pump for my car...I do have a diverter valve, but 69 smog pumps are incredibly hard to find. There is an old nasty one on ebay right now with a "buy it now" of like $499.00...a bit ridiculous I think. |
