Tried to start my '97 this afternoon. turned the key, radio came on, all the dash lights came on, battery gauge started rising, poor car didn't make a sound. It didn't sputter, it didn't chug, poor thing didn't even try to make a sound. I walked around for a few ,came back after calming down, and it started but with a definite loud knock that went away within a couple minutes. what in the world is going on? it didn't sound like metal on metal. i sure hope this isn't an engine problem. anybody know what might be going on here?

The knock you heard may have been detonation from lack of fuel. This would explain the no start situation. It's a good place to start.

well i had just filled my tank this morning so i still had a good 3/4 left. maybe bad gas? but then again i probably would have heard the car at least trying to start right? any other ideas?
