Was it possible for a Norwood built car to have been sold new in California? The car in question has a build date of 02E on the cowl tag. If this was possible, would this car have had a smog pump? The car is an rsss 350 4 speed convertible. Thanks in advance.

Sure, if a dealer in CA needed a Camaro with certain options and a dealer in the east had one available, I've heard that dealers swapped cars on occasion.

Can you post the VIN and trim tag numbers?

It is not my car and I don't have the numbers yet. I plan on looking at it this Saturday. Because of the emissions laws in California, would the car have to have the smog pump? If so, did the dealer install it? Would Norwood have put the smog equipment on Camaros at the plant in 1967?

Californias smog laws allowed for cars that were built at the factory that had original destinations to be sold elseware or in other states to be sold in Ca with the factory emissions the car was built with from the factory. In the late 80's or so the state enacted what was called an impact fee. If a vehicle was sold with or built without Ca emissions and it was brought into the state you had to pay a fee of $300 to $400 before you could register it. The law was later found to be illegal and impact fees returned to people that paind them.

In 1967 Camaros were built and sold in other states that had smog pump requirements. Most requirements came on cars fitted with manual transmissions and/or open element air cleaners. I have seen some automatic themoreactive air cleaner cars with smog pumps in ca. I owned one, it was a 65 Mustang 289 fast back C4 trans and smog pump. Bought it from the original owner and they said it had the emissions on it when they bought it new in San Diego Ca. It may have been an option you could have put on any car?
