Hey all.

My 68 Convert is almost ready to see the light of day..
I'm now installing the new front swaybar I got from Hotchkis, it's the 1 1/8 hollow bar.
I'm having a very tough time snaking it through the lower controll arms to where it's got to be.

The middle portion of the bar keeps smacking the subframe center "horn".

I figure the only way out is to remove one lower control arm to get it in place.. shame I just did the front springs 2 hours ago..
Anyone else have to go through such trouble?
I've tried it with the lowers relaxed (on the lift) and with the lowers supported with jack stands.. It's just soooo close, but i don't want to beat up the fresh subframe paint or the coating on the bar...

I've searched and have come up dry..

Thanks..

this looks like what you want (C&P) from an old post.

Yes it can be done and it sure is fun.

I took the drivers wheel off and turned the wheels to full left lock. I was able to twist/turn it in and it was really tight. In fact I thought I was going to have to drop the drivers LCA but then it slid in. It does take alot of finessing.

This comes up so much maybe we need a sticky.

Everything between the ball joints is in the way of getting the swaybar on, and the bigger it is, the more in the way everything is!

The swaybar should always go back on the car before the spindles, springs, and shocks.

Last night I just installed a Hotchkis bar on my Camaro. Took me about 2 minutes, probably be because I already removed the wheel, rotor, caliper brackets and dustshields in advance of installing my Baer brakes. I didn't have any issues with the lower control arm in the way.

Good Luck,
Mike

Thanks for the help.. I did find some other posts after my posting that were helpful..

By car's a big block, with the 1968 style power steering and short water pump setup.. It's awful tight in there..
I'll get it..

thanks all
