Anyone ever see factory console radio controls for a 68 rs with am/fm?

Yes, they are for the multiplex am/fm radio setup for a car with a console, being in an RS (or any other version of a Camaro) doesn't have anything to do with it. Pete Este's 68 Z28 convertible has that setup. I've got pictures of both a console with the unit installed, and the unit itself. Very rare.

The controls are in the lid, are they not? I saw one come up on ebay with a "buy it now" for $190.00 I thought it was someones modification and passed. The seller obviously thought the same. Ugghh!

Yes, it sits in the console compartment door and consists of 4 knobs (balance, fade, tone and volume) and a center green stereo light. The unit in the console compartment cover is just the knobs, it's useless without the multiplex adapter that gets mounted by the steering column which is also unique to this setup.

If I'm not mistaken, the multoplex gets installed to the left of the steering column.

What was the code to order this and its brake down for how many made?

1335 U79 multiplex setups sold in 68. Only U79's installed in a car with a console would get this setup. How many went into console cars, and how many went into non console cars is unknown. So the only correct answer is less than 1335.

I had a roommate years ago that said he had that setup in a 68 he bought new. I remember he said the radio knobs were in the console lid. Too bad the car was stolen. I haven't kept in touch with him but if anyone has questions I can maybe get you in contact with him.

I'm not 100% sure what's wrong with that setup but the wiring on my setup is different. I have wires running from the control head to the multiplex. There is a round connection under the console connecting the two. Then I have the speaker wires running from the control head to another connection from the multiplex and radio. Then I have another set of wires running from the multiplex to the radio and connects where that little round jumper is when you don't have stereo in an am/fm radio. The last thing that doesn't look right is the mount for the multiplex. I do not see one, so I can't figure how to mount it. The mount should be similar to the mount shown in UPC79, page A3 of 68 Assembly Manual. Also, the lid can be drilled for the holes but the decal is pretty hard to come by. With all this said and trying not to bash the item on Ebay, what he has may be correct, but I would definitely want to see a few more pictures of the six sides of the multiplex, want to know exactly what it was removed from and find out why he doesn't want to sell the lid and decal..
