Spraying my 302 and wondering if the fuel pump plate got orange as well. Or was it just left natural metal?

Thanks,

Darren

The Fuel Pump, Mounting Plate (and Gaskets) and the Pump Push Rod, along with the necessary hardware, were added at the factory during final assembly. They were not on the engine during the assembly painting, so did not get "Chevy Orange" paint.
The Plate was normally finished with a Semi-gloss Black paint or had an oxide type finish (darker than bare metal), depending on the year(s).
Other components like the distributor, coil, plugs, sensors and exhaust manifolds were also not on Flint ("V") engines at the time they were painted, so they do not normally exhibit the same 'overspray' patterns on these components as that of Tonawanda ("T") and other assembly plants.
Hope this helps and others chime in with what their finish is.

Ah. I got it. That's why there was black paint on the edges of the plate. :)

Perhaps I will get this part powder coated.

Darren, what specs did you use to build your 302? Just curious because I am hoping to start mine in the next few weeks.

Hey Gary- It started out as a simple swapping of cylinder heads. Next thing I know the engine is out of the car and I have the front end torn off. I rebuilt the motor in 86. Basically all stock except for the 30 over pistons. Crank is 1178, cam is a Crane 30/30. Since I just summer drive the car I didn't bother with the bottom end of it this time around. All cylinder walls still look nice and etc. I have a pretty lengthy thread on the yenko site. Check it out. Any questions just holler. :)

Interesting post over there at the Yenko site. You guys really wander around the subject.:) What brand of piston do you have. They look like the Wiseco's I just got.
