I found the numbers for my engine block and rear end. My trim tag shows that I should have a 327 and I do, but how do I know if this is the actual 327 that came with the car? Similarly, how would I know if the rear end is the original rear end? Thanks.

There is no way to know for sure unless you have he protecto plate and the codes match on it. That being said, if the codes are within a couple of months before the car was built, than you will not get any arguments with anyone saying that it is not correct. You can send me the info and I can tell you if everything is acceptable.

Thanks for the reply. This is a 1967 RS Convertible with a 327 with an "01B" designation on the cowl tag, meaning it was built in the second week of January 1967. It's a Los Angeles built car with the internal plant designation of G516, but I'm not sure what that actually means. The number on the engine block is FO2I8HE....although the last digit might be F and not E, its hard to tell. From the number on the block, F means it was built in the Flint Motor Facility, the 0218 means it was built on February 18th, but I'm not sure what the HE or HF means. I could not find a number anywhere else on the block, not even near the oil filter. Maybe I'm not looking in the correct spot. I know finding the partial VIN stamp is important, but I also know that some 1967 engines don't have it...maybe mine is one of them. I found two numbers on the rear axle/diff. The first is K216, which I belkieve means it was built on the 21st day of November 1966. The other number is 3894860, and I believe that refers to a 12 bolt rear. I did not find any other numbers on the axle or diff. If you can help further, I would appreciate it. I'd love to know whether or not these are original to the car. Thanks.

Your are correct that the F is for Fint and date is Feb 18. The HE suffix code is a 67 327/300HP Corvette application. And yes the 3894860NF is the 12 bolt Camaro rear end.

One other note...you said hard to tell it its HE or HF...if its HF that is a 327/275HP Passenger car application...so still would not be original Camaro engine.
