This is from the owner of our local track in my area (Central Texas) just passing it along to those who might wanna help Kermit race till he can't get behind the wheel anymore...

We have a gentleman who races with us, and has been racing here for years, who has been given 6 months to live, maybe less. His name is Kermit Tieken. He drives a blue and white VW Bug out at our track on Friday and Saturday nights, which actually runs pretty quick. I've only known Kermit for a little less than a year since we took over, but if you look up the word "nice" in the dictionary, you would see his picture there.

I saw him Saturday night after I got word of his situation. He was here for his last race. He was basically using Saturday night as a way to get the word out that he was selling all of his racing equipment. He told us he needed to sell it so that he could cover his burial expenses so his family wouldn't be hindered by that burden.

This has been tearing my wife and I up. We decided to do some sort of fundraiser race/event for him on the 23rd of April. I don't have all the details yet, but looks like it's going to be huge. We are going to have some bad to the bone cars out here that night, including the track record holder Ronnie Niswanger. We are going to make this event as big as we can. We are donating half of the gate fees and all of the sponsorship revenues from that event to Kermit.

My goal is to generate enough donations on or before the event to cover those costs so that he can race until he is physically unable to do so any longer. I hate the thought of him having to sell everything and then just wait around to die.

If you can't make it to the race, then tell as many people as you can about it. Forward it in e-mails, message boards, or whereever. The more people we have out here that night, the more we can give to Kermit and his family.

If there is anything you might be able to donate for this event, it would be greatly appreciated more than you will ever know. We will have donation points at the track and also on our website at www.templeacademy.com. No donation would be too small, I don't care if it's the spare change between your couch cushions. I'm not one to put my hand out, but I'm doing so now.

If you like you can also mail a check or money order made out to Kermit Tieken to the track. The address is 13550 State Highway 95, Holland TX 76534. Event sponsorships are also available for $100 if you want some extra exposure for your business.

Thank you for your time and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
