View Full Version : Best place to buy exhaust?
ck 2 Apr 11th, 05, 06:31 PM I was just looking for some recommendations on where to get the best deal on an exhaust sysrem for my 69. I want a stock looking replacement exhaust at least 2 1/4 diameter.
I want something like the aluminized system that won't rust.
thorpe67RS Apr 11th, 05, 06:55 PM Not sure exactly what you mean by stock looking...whether you just want it to exit in the stock location or want the whole underside to look stock. Summit has what i think are great prices on their exhaust kits and i was very happy with mine for my 67. If you want truly stock they may not have what youre looking for.
ck 2 Apr 11th, 05, 06:59 PM I was thinking of something stock appearing with the transverse muffler.

Chevy454 Apr 13th, 05, 08:27 PM For the dead nuts correct exhaust, Gardner Exhaust (http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/) is who you need to call...if you want a system that looks close to stock, but is 2.5" and mandrel bent yet still uses a transverse muffler, then Pypes Performance (http://www.pypesexhaust.com/sys-camaro.html) just came out with a complete system...
ck 2 Apr 15th, 05, 02:19 PM I called Gardner today and their system for my car is $610.00. I called Ricks and they have an aluminized system that looks like stock it is $325.00.
Has anyone ever seen or used this system from ricks?
trentonZ28 Apr 16th, 05, 04:27 AM I did. I had to send the main pipes, from the manifold to the rear end, back twice. They were not bent correctly and wouldn't fit. The one I have on the driver's side still doesn't fit the way it should. The part of the pipe that turns down off of the manifold, seems to be bent too far to the rear, and is hard to get it on the studs. The pipe on the passenger side is starting to rust from the flange down about 6 inches. Bottom line, I'm not happy, but I didn't complain enough last year when I bought the system and I was in to big of a hurry to get the car back on the road. My fault, money not wisely spent, lesson learned. Not vendor bashing, just stating the facts. I may be looking at the Gardner systems.

Farm Boy Apr 16th, 05, 10:32 AM I bought the 2 ¼ inch system from Rick’s and installed it last month. When I first installed it the muffler was hanging way to low. I unclamped the tailpipes and repositioned (rotated) them to have more of the weight of the system on the rear hangers and the muffler fit better. I would prefer the muffler to ride another inch or more higher. I like the way it sounds. The picture in my sig was before I repositioned the muffler. I would rate this system as good but not great.

Gary L Apr 17th, 05, 07:15 PM I do not recommend Stainless Works. I bought a kit from Summit. I ordered transverse and got chambered after waiting 3 months. The tips came welded crooked. Stainless Works tried twice to get it right and could or would not finish the problem off. I finally told them after screwing around with it for almost 1 month I would get them cut straight myself. The quality is not the best.
Ccass Apr 26th, 05, 12:53 PM Just a head up.....The systems from Rick's, Gardner and Stainless works are all compression bent systems not mandrel bent. That is fine for a show car but if you want the added hp, mandrel bent pipe flows far better and will give a minimum of 20hp and usually additional torque.
BH69Camaro Apr 28th, 05, 08:45 PM The system I got from Rick's is mandrel bent, made by IMCO. It doesn't have the compression bends in it.
