I am replacing bearings on a '69 tilt column I have. I cannot get the shaft nut loose. A regular 1 1/2 inch socket won't fit,...tried every other combo imagined(pliers,crows foot,needle nose vise grips,etc.) I finally decided to "read" the service manual and it is calling for "thin walled socket". Anyone had success using something else or know where I can find a thin walled socket? I have tried local home stores and sears. Thanks!

But a cheap socket from wal-mart etc. Grind it down to create your own thin wall socket,
