Occasionally someone post about a good first vehicle for their kids and I usually reply with what and why my wife and I choose what we did. Here’s a recent example of that. One of the members from my other board posted pictures of the damage he incurred when an suv rear ended him at 40 – 50 mph. http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/showmedia.php?id=120629 There’s a window at the bottom of the page that lets you view pictures of both vehicles.

LOL! That is what happens when you hit some vintage American military equipment with a Japanese tin can SUV.

Good thing her airbag went off or she might have been really hurt. I'll bet that Montero got totalled out by the insurance.

Likely cost the "jeep" owner about $100 to fix his little boo boo. :D

The guy was dead stopped but in gear when hit, says he’s having a problem with the transmission now.

That's a bit misleading. The Jeep collided with the SUV's softest area on the front end. I'm not surprised that's all the damage there is. They try to make it seem as if it was a full front-to-rear collision at high speed, and say "Look how strong is old Jeep is!" Yeah right, I know they are indeed strong, but not that tough. They just got lucky.

If that SUV was higher, that Jeep would be totaled, as well as the SUV. A new 4x4 pickup with a high bumper would have munched the crap outta that Jeep (as well as the pickup).

No one is trying to deceive anyone and yes those military trucks are very tough.

#14586, "my m715 is now wrecked!!!!!!!!!!" yep. got rear ended by a mitsubishi montero sport. 40-50mph rear end into me on wet concrete. my foot was on the brake and i was completetly stopped and she pushed me about 20 feet. punched a hole in the tranny, bent the right rear light bracket and other minor damage. the shift lever broke, and my leg is bruised. thats me in the pic."

Geezer, I agree, the metal on those old rigs are sturdy! I bet when that Montero is 25 years old it won't be on the road any more...Plenty of newer cars would look far worse if rearended by a Montero going 40-50mph ;)
