Hi

I am hoping someone can give me some advice? I need to replace all my shocks on my stock 68 Camaro 396. Can anyone recommend me a good brand and type for my car? I currently have stock 14 x 6 ralley wheels on the vehicle and don't have any clearance problems. Thank you!

Koni, Bilstein, QA1. Personally I am a Bilstein Fan.

I have QA-1 coilovers on the front of my '67 396 and like them very much. I will probably put the QA1's on the rear in the coming days......

KYB and Monroes are decent cheaper ones, imho..

Just get the pressurized ones.

I went with KYB's
Very happy with them.

Thank for the advise. Is it because the 396 is so heavy you need a quality shock that is adjustable?

No the springs are what compensates for the heavy big block. Quality shocks (not necessarly adjustable) provide better handling and in some cases better ride quality. Shocks like KYB's will improve handling but it's been my experience they take away from ride quality. They are a trade off, you get some performance without the higher price. The QA1 coilovers allow you to adjust how high your front end sits so if you were thinking about lowering your car they might be a good choice in place of lowering springs or drop spindles... If you are looking for best possible ride quality and handling go with the more expensive Koni (3 adjustable settings) or Bilstein. They are well worth the expense.
