I have an original '69 Camaro with a 6-cylinder engine. I will be replacing the motor with a big block and have a question. The original gas pedal assembly has a cable connected to it under the dash, it goes through the firewall and of course, connects to the carburetor. Is the gas pedal assembly different for a V-8 car, and if so, what do I need? Is it a rod and linkage? Is the pedal assembly where it goes through the firewall different? Thanks in advance for any help!

the 6 cylinder and V-8 accelerator linkage is different. the V-8 does use a different arm that attaches to the accelerator pedal and has a rod that goes between the arm and carburater. the restoration parts suppliers have the parts you need.

Thanks, smallblock- I thought there was a different assembly, but was not sure. I wanted to make sure I purchase the right parts.

If you are considering functional cowl hood, the accererator arm is different. It is the stock V8 arm with an extra piece spot welded to it for the flapper switch.

Thanks for the info Unreal. I plan on using a non-functional cowl hood.

I converted my 6 Cyl to a V8 small block and just used the cable. It works fine.

Did the same years ago to a 68 bird. SB350 into a 68. I just used the cable. I did find out after many foot to the floor episoes, the pedal bent near the cable end.
