Hi All,
I am new here because I just got my first Camaro- a '69 RS/SS 396 which may or may not be original. Anyway, my question is that the brakes are really touchy (I guess you could have figured that out from the title, huh?) and I am wondering if this is normal. It has front power brakes, rear drums and is pretty much a resto- no HiPerf stuff. All I need to do is just barely touch the pedal and the car stops violently. Could this be caused by a malfunctioning metering valve(the cylindrical thing bolted to the power booster?) Any other ideas?

Thanks for the ideas!

i think a bad power booster can cause that...
i doubt it is that valve. it doesn't do much except on light stops, and eliminating it is reported not to cause adverse nosedive or touchy brakes.

I had the same problem with the '67. It would stand you on your head. Come to find out the rod was in the top hole of the pedal and should be in the bottom. Easy enough to look and see if that's the case.

I just checked today and confirmed that the brake rod is in the lower hole. I thought with a bad booster the brakes would be stiff and take a lot of effort to stop the car? Anyway, thanks for the ideas, I will keep checking.

stiff pedal is the most common symptom of a bad booster, yes.
touchy pedal is less common, and more likely to be something else, but still possible.
