: Pulley Swap?

Hey fellas! I have a '67 RS/SS and am in the long process of learning what is 'correct', what works, and what I can afford.

I am getting ready to do the swap from the externally regulated factory alternator setup to the internally regulated setup per Mad Mike, and was wondering about another issue.

I'm not sure which power steering pump I have, nor do I know how to tell, but the v-belt setup is like this: 1 belt from power steering pulley to crank, 2 belts around alternator pulleys, water pump and crank.

I have replaced the 2 long v-belts several times to try to eliminate the annoying squeal that inhibits my enjoyment of the engine roar when I put the hammer down. The alternator is set up on the driver's side. There's very little room for alternator adjustment inward (alternator runs into valve cover) or outward (run out of bracket) - so I don't have much choice on belt length. I have a hard time getting a belt that's going to be tight enough on there, and then when it gets stretched out - there isn't much room to swing the alternator out to get it tightened up again.

I have read some about March and other 'serpentine' or ribbed belt setups. My question (finally!) is this: Is there some way I can simply replace my factory v-belt pulleys with ribbed belt pulleys without having to get a bunch of brackets and/or pumps? I have double-hump heads and they do not have the bracket holes that it seems I need to just rob the setup from an 80's model 350 setup. I'd like to get something on there that works and doesn't squeal, but I can't justify spending several hundred bucks on it!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I guess I have never seen a two belt alt. drive on our motors?? At least that I remember??

You do have a short water pump equipped motor don't you? Oooop's, have to if the alt. is over on the drivers side.....

All you need is a stock crank SWP single groove pulley with a stock bolt-on SWP P/S single groove pulley, a SWP single groove water pump pulley and finally a single groove alt. pulley, preferrably a stock, deep groove one too...

Is the top alt. adjusting bracket bolted to the front of the alt. or the back, b/c if it is bolted to the back, the alt. is probably binding on it such that you would have belt tightening issues!!

I bolted mine on the front and also shimmed it out some at the intake manifold bolt AND have all sorts of adjustment room.

Plus, I have way back when used two of the slotted top brackets stacked so that it didn't wobble or bend any b/c one is kinda flimsy, even if it is stock!! (The long skinny one's, not the stock, triangle shaped top bracket!!).....
