1988 305 tbi. I was geting no fuel so I droped the fuel tank, put in a new fuel pump and when i tested it, it didnt run. Now the wiring going to the sending unit has 8 volts. But the wire going to the fuel pump only has .02 volts. I was wondering what the correct voltages were. The computer is new, but the number match i dont know if that would effect it. The car has also been siting for a number of years so its possible mice got to the wiring. Heres a bad picture of the pump/sending unit. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/xz510/diagram.jpg

Theirs 3 wires that go to the fuel pump/sending unit. One should be ground, one should be 12 volts for the pump and im not sure about the sending unit. The way its set up now, 8 volts are going to the sending unit and .02 are going to the pump. I can test the 3 wires that go to the sending unit/fuel pump i just need to know which wire is which.

just a thought here.........the reason you may be getting the .02volts is because the fuel pump relay isn't active. if you pull it out and put a jumper wire in then test the voltage at the pump.

Good point. Also see that ground is ground. If your ground is floating it can mislead you. 12 - 11.2 = 0.8 for example.

Ok i made sure i had a ground and tested the line to the fuel pump. It still came up with .02 volts. Any one have idea where the short could be?

you won't have power to the pump unless the engine is running. When you first turn the key, the pump energizes for a moment to pressurize the system, then shuts off. There is also an oil pressure switch in the circuit somewhere that cuts out the pump if you have no oil pressure (which you don't, since it isn't running)

The pump doesnt run at all, not even to pressurize the system. When the ignition is on, theirs a steady .02 volts to the pump, but thats it. Any suggestions on what i should try next?
