View Full Version : Under carpet metal pieces
Brackneyc Apr 28th, 05, 09:23 PM My car had the interior removed before I got it, but it was all there. I cannot figure out where these four thin metal pieces came from. They have carpet remnants stuck to them, but I can't figure out how they set in there. Anyone have any pics to illustrate the location of these four pieces. There are some screw holes in them, but they don't seem to line up with any of the holes anywhere on the floor. Thanks
67CruiseMasterCamaro Apr 28th, 05, 09:38 PM Those tin pieces are screwed to the rockers to protect the wiring that is run under them. Each side has 3 pieces.

Uh-oh. I only have 4 pieces total. Any suggestions that don't involve hunting them down on Ebay. I don't recall ever seeing them in the catalogs.
gene_sc Apr 28th, 05, 11:16 PM There are only 2 per side not 3...
Kyvox Apr 28th, 05, 11:20 PM I think he meant that each side uses three screws to attach them. Only four pieces are needed. They overlap in the center with one screw through both pieces, and a screw at each end. There is a driver side, and passenger side, so be aware that they are different.
Brackneyc Apr 29th, 05, 06:20 AM I thought that they went there, but after mixing and switching pieces, never could get them to set in there in a way that looked right. I'll try it again. :)
gene_sc Apr 29th, 05, 10:10 AM I'll try to remember to take a pic when I get to the shop
67CruiseMasterCamaro Apr 29th, 05, 10:22 AM Yah that is what I meant to say, sorry for the confusion.
Brackneyc Apr 29th, 05, 11:28 AM No problem. If you can confuse me more than I already am, you have done something pretty spectacular. :)
67CruiseMasterCamaro Apr 29th, 05, 01:15 PM I'm still waiting for those pictures you send you were gonna send about the fram rails. Or did you figure it out?
gene_sc Apr 29th, 05, 08:14 PM Here are some pics of them in the car

Brackneyc Apr 29th, 05, 08:35 PM Gene, no way did I think those went like that. So, the sill plates sit on top of them? Thank you.
Craig
Everett#2390 Apr 29th, 05, 09:58 PM The carpet lays on top of the plates. Then the sill plates goes on top. The sill plates hold the carpet in place.

Yep Everetts got you covered :)
FYI convert and coupe are different...
PairOf69's Apr 30th, 05, 07:12 AM Are these pieces really needed, i'm not going all original....?

The carpet may not lay out smoothly with out them
Everett#2390 Apr 30th, 05, 08:48 PM Not really needed, but, they give the carpet a well-rounded look. If you get flat carpet, there won't be much support.
A molded carpet will look just plain funky because the carpet will have to do a reverse bend at the rockers, it won't lay correctly.
tejasrs/ss May 6th, 05, 10:09 AM I just saw these on e-bay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7971557055&category=33705
KevinW May 6th, 05, 02:13 PM Those are only for the drivers side. Whole car needs 4 pieces.
tejasrs/ss May 6th, 05, 03:20 PM um..ok
PairOf69's May 6th, 05, 09:11 PM Is this something I can make out of sheetmetal...?

You might be able to make something that would function okay but it would be very hard to repoduce them exactly. I might have a full set for a coupe, if you can't find any.
KevinW May 7th, 05, 06:24 AM If Gene cannot find his, I have a coupe set available. PM me for price.
