Guys, I have found something unusual about my car's trunk filler tube and protective cover. In the many boxes of parts I found the trunk fill tube and it has a rubber sleeve on it. The rubber sleeve also has a metal flange that I imagine is screwed to the trunk floor. I am assuming that the rubber sleeve is to seal the trunk compartment of gas fumes and water. I have looking in the AIM and didn't find anything that resembles this rubber tube. Is it correct for my car? Also, the metal cover that fits over the top of the gas filler tube is squared, and not round like the AIM shows. Is this the correct cover?

Yes, the rubber sleeve is correct for your car. On the upper end of the sleeve is a round flange. This goes through the body, and ends up between the body and the flange of the metal filler tube. The lower end is mounted as you described.
As for the shape of the metal protective cover:
The majority of the ones that I've seen have the 90* bends in them. Seems like I might have run across a rounded one at some time or another, I don't really remember. Might have been an early design change. Maybe someone can chime in if they have one that is rounded.

Hey John, I wonder why the rubber tube isn't shown in the AIM then? Also, I would like to ask anyone who has the rounded shaped cover to please post a picture of it. Thanks

I would guess that the rubber sleeve, fill tube and gas cap were installed by Fisher Body, and therefore their installation procedure in not covered in the AIM. Apparently, Chevrolet just installed the tank, and attached it to the short rubber hose coupling at the bottom of the tube.

That would make sense. JohnZ, you have any input?

I'm not familiar with those details on the '67 cars - I was there during '69 production. :)
