I let my 1988 IROC camaro 305 tbi sit for about six months. I went to go start it and the battery was dead. I put a new battery in and it would crank, but wouldn't start. I put some fuel in the carb and it started right up but died after a few seconds. It starts fine when I put fuel in the carb but doesn't last. I took off the fuel line to see if it was getting fuel when I turned the key to on and it wasn't. I even tried to start it with the line off and no fuel through the line. I had my wife turn the key to on while I took the gas cap off and listened for the fuel pump to turn on. It sounded like it was running. I then removed the line from the fuel filter and had her turn the key to on and then try to start it, very little fuel going through the filter. I was wondering where to go from here. Thanks.

I take it you mean fuel/starter fluid down the throttle blades, or I am lost. :)

I take it you never saw fuel squirt from the injectors (TBI, not TPI, right?). So when you disconnected the line leading into the FF, no fuel? If you heard the pump running, then I might guess it is dead or clogged (and/or the sock it). If not, I might try to test the leads going to it first, make sure it has juice. It is a drag to change the pump.

I guess the lines could be clogged, but I wouldn't think so. There isn't much between the tank and the FF.

Unless the tank vent line is clogged. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v359/SIBLY/Emos/headscratch.gif

Make sure there is more than 1/2 tank of fuel. The pump has a hard time priming itself if the fuel is below the pump.

There is a fuel pump relay on the driver side firewall next to the hood hinge. You will notice two large gauge wires in the socket. You might take a jumper wire and jumper across those two wires to turn on the fuel pump to help troubleshoot/prime the pump. Maybe even blow into the fuel tank filler to sort of pressurize the tank to help prime the pump.
