View Full Version : Hidden VINs
olympic69 May 3rd, 05, 07:03 PM Has anyone heard of a "hidden" VIN on the body (1969) near the front visor/ windshield area, inside the Pass compartment? A friend has heard this, I have not, so I thought I would see if anyone else had knowledge of this.
Thanks,
Rob

klingrr May 3rd, 05, 07:13 PM Does anybody know what the code on the heater box, inside the car, stands for? I changed the heater core this past winter in my car and found the code on the heater box.
67CruiseMasterCamaro May 3rd, 05, 07:22 PM What code? You have a picture and is it stamped, grease pencil or painted?
klingrr May 3rd, 05, 07:38 PM I can't figure out how to post the pictures. I don't think I am permitted.?!
As far as the code, red grease pencil and I know the first item is a 3 and it looks like the second item is a D. I am not sure since the "D" is a little on the funky side or it could be a weird 8. It looks like 3D or 38 My date on the trim tag is 03B. I am going to try and figure out how to post the pictures.
JohnZ May 4th, 05, 05:44 PM Probably an assembly broadcast sequence number - the guys in the subassembly area that built up the inside heater boxes and control heads and sequenced them to be fed to the main line had to know which inside box each car took (SB heater, BB heater, A/C, etc.). :)
Chuck L May 5th, 05, 10:15 AM Funny you mention this, I was going to put a post here last week, I was at this classic car shop here in knoxville, and was talking with the owner, (think his name was Bill) and he was saying that he use to get called in on criminal case's or law suits where his "expertise" was needed. And that he was friends w/ Lee Iacoca and blah, blah, blah but that there where more serial numbers on 67-71 camaros then people knew about. He was not saying where, how or who he gets his info from, But I just blew it of as B.S. Do you you all agree, What your thoughts. I only know of the 3 locations for the 69 models. Anyone else care to comment?
Jonesy May 5th, 05, 10:36 AM BS. I took my complete body and subframe right down to bare metal and found no other areas that were stamped with the partial VIN. I can tell you that most of the panels did have some letters stamped in them. Usually it was the 3 letter code like K44 or similar, which is the plant and week that the panel was produced. I also found 12437 stamped in a few panels (trunk drop off), but those numbers only. I do not have a VIN stamping in my heater box area and I know of other cars that didnt get stamped there also. My rotors had a yellow ink stamp with the day of the year on them. I have also seen a yellow ink stamp of 12437 on the subframe. Most of the time this stuff wears off and is never seen.
