Just finished rebuilding 350 chevy engine and was wonder what is the best way to ensure proper lubrication at start up time?

They sell a tool for this, or I think you can use a shaft from on old distributor too. You remove your distributor and connect the tool to your drill and going through where your distributor goes you can prime your motor. Just a few minutes will build up some oil pressure and get some circulation in the motor.

Other than that you should have used plenty of assembly lube on everything. Also GM sells by the pint EOS (engine oil supplement) which is also helpful to put in.

Get the tool with the upper and lower galleys on it. If you buy the plain shafts alot of companies sell, you won't lube the lifter galley and get oil to the rockers.

Jegs#555-23640 is what I'm referring to.

I had trouble getting lube to the rockers, took a while, how does the tool with the galley's help? What does it look like?

I made my own out of an old distributor. Just grind the teeth off the gear and weld something to the top to chuck in a drill. I used a 3/8 bolt.

remove the spark plugs and use the starter to spin the motor. you will be surprised how much pressure it will make.

Just using a shaft on a drill won't build oil pressure; you need this tool with the spool at the bottom that matches the one cast into the distributor housing to connect the lifter galleries. Without the spool, the oil from the pump will just dump from the open galleries back down through the distributor hole into the oil pan.
