Chuck,
1969 Camaro RS Z/28
02C Van Nuys car.
Chassis broadcast copy was on top of the gas tank until it was removed around 2001. It's about 90% + ledgeable. Hadn't thought about looking for another one. My car has the original carpet and interior so I guess it's possible.
I did find two in a '71 Chevelle several years ago. One was crumpled up inside the rear springs of the back seat and the other one was under the carpet on the drivers side floor. Can't remember where the car was assembled.

'69 coupe car-Van Nuys built. Found above gas tank a few years back. Mostly legible, but faded. I've heard that it's rare to find one in a Norwood car, but for some reason they are in Cali cars fairly regularly. Above the gas tank is the prime location to find one. Between headliner and roof and under seats or carpet are suspected areas too. ;)

About the only thing I found under the carpet in my '69 was an old GM logo'd paper coffee cup. Apparently the assembly line worker had a drink and threw the cup down right before the carpet was laid! Still have the paper cup...oh also found the carpet OEM vendor tag.

Regarding the Chassis Broadcast Copy - found mine on top the tank, driver side, near the front. Decent shape, could clearly ID it as an RS Z, as well as most options. Van Nuys Built, 04B.

I too have a 69 RSZ28 Van Nuys Camaro and found the build sheet on top of the gas tank on the drivers side. Approximately 60% legible but enough to verify my car. No other paperwork found at this time.

1969 VanNuys RS/SS 350, found on top of gas tank in 2002. Drivers side front of the tank. I bought the car in 1980 and wish I would have known about this then. It probably would be in better shape now. I can still read 80% or so of it. It wasnt glued down, just sitting there compressed between the trunk pan and tank/insulator.

Still have the paper cup...oh also found the carpet OEM vendor tag. Just about as neat of a find as the build sheet. It would be a good conversation piece to display with the car at a show!

chock up another for van nuys. my 01D Z/28 was on top of gas tank also
90% legible. it did get sandwiched on the tank insulation stuff on one corner and thats the part that could not be removed.

The database is a much easier way to answer this:
67 - NOR 23, LOS 7
68 - NOR 24, LOS 5
69 - NOR 19, LOS 62

Note that there are some major distortions in those #'s. Some are just sheets, car is long gone; many have been with the car's paperwork from day 1.

138 out of 10,000. Other than 69 LA cars, your chance is about zero it's in the car. :(

Looks like 69 LA cars on top of the gas tank are the more common ones. I guess 67 and 68 werent left in the cars as often. So are they being found on the gas tank for those years also?

Where are the Norwood ones showing up?

I had a X11 Norwood car that I found a GM logo'd paper coffee cup under the passenger side carpet. Someone on the line must have made a habit of getting rid of his/her coffee cup by tossing them under the carpet of cars.

From what I understand, the Norwood cars dont have them. At least Ive never known of one or anyone thats found one. But somewhat common for the LA cars.

Restoring a 69 RS Z now, and found the carpet tag, the gauge stickers (tach, console), and the tags on the car behind the door panels (all 4 identical), but no build sheet.

Found some handwritten "build sheets" (lack of a better term) in my 69 GTO. RPO codes. And another guy locally found very similar in a mid 60s pontiac. Kurt S has seen them. But guess it doesnt really matter here.

Sorry about posting this question 2 times but, I was under the impression that there were many many cars with legit build/broadcast sheets with them. Is the list Kurt gave above all the "known" build/broadcast sheets? thanks, Kevin

Jus4fun,
I am not answering for Kurt, but I will say that there are many cars out there that have the broadcast copy sheet still over the gas tank and there are many owners who have found the sheet, but don't know Kurt or the CRG, etc. So maybe those low numbers indicate the folks who have decided to add to the CRG database? I added mine from my 69 coupe car, but they seem more important to the guys who have badged cars. It's sort of a "see, the factory paperwork says it came with a big block, 12 bolt, and it is a "z" " I really have no use for mine, except to add it to my scrapbook of Camaro stuff...

It just suprised me that outta 10K entries by camaro enthusiast, there would have been more participation. Having the body broadcast sheet was neat to find. It truly does ad some credability to a car that is suppose to be a COPO, Z, L-89, etc. I wish I knew where I could get the darn thing decoded!LOL! Kevin

On my old 1970 Z/28 I found it under the passenger side front seat.

I wasn't the one to find it, it was included with the purchase of the car from the original owner and is in mint condition.

The broadcast sheet for my Norwood car was in the plastic pouch with the owners manual, when I purchased the car from the 3rd owner, and it looked like it had been there from the beginning. It too is in mint condition. Some of these sheets must have been placed in the car...maybe the dash? Kevin

I have a 68 RS convertible which I was lucky enough to purchase from the original owner. BOTH build sheets were given to me along with the protect-o-plate, original reciept and window sticker. The build sheets are in perfect condition and have never even been folded. They was taped to a piece of cardboard that has wheelcover removal instructions on it at the Chevy dealership back in 1968. The car is all original with all matching numbers.

I was`nt as lucky, one of the previous owners had ( DRILLED A HOLE) in the trunk to let the water out I`m assuming sense the are signs of some water damage to the trunk pan, vinyl bonnet leaked at clips, it had rotted away the sheet, just a rusted bunch of paper shreds! Is it possible there could be more? L.A. Car

No. The CRG database is a sampling of cars, gathered from a myriad of sources. Out of the 10,000 cars we have data on, 138 have broadcast sheets. I'll add that this includes sheets for cars that are long gone.

No doubt there are many sheets out there, but this gives you the odds in finding a car with one (69 LA cars excepted).

A lot of the sheets that people have were sitting in the car and the dealer just included them in the paperwork to the original owner.

CRG is always looking for copies of broadcast sheets and I can help decode them (Body sheets tend to tell more than Chassis sheets, neither tell all the options).

I talk to a guy at a show yesterday in Troy,Ohio about this very subject. He said he found part of his stuck to the underside of the "package" shelf. A previous owner had cut the shelf and installed speakers, and he was replacing the package shelf with a new one. He said part of the sheet was stuck to the bottom of the shelf, the rest had been destroyed from cutting the holes. This was a Norwood car.

Interesting - the package shelf was installed at Fisher Body, and the broadcast copy wasn't even printed until the body was received at Chevrolet and scheduled out of their body bank; Chevrolet didn't do anything in the trunk except install the spare tire and jack and drive the bumper bolts.

I've got my chassis broadcast copy that was on top of the gas tank. Has anybody found the body broadcast sheet hidden someplace in their Van Nuys car?
Thanks

just removed the original carpet in mine and found a "foremost" brand chocolate milk container with a round, fastened-on opening for drinking on the side of the carton. On the bottom, barely visible, are the numbers "12 20". My car was a third weeker in December...some joker in Van Nuys was leaving all his trash in people's new cars!! No build sheet, though...checked the tank, under front seats, removed back seat...any other possiblities?

My '69Z is an 11d ('68) Norwood, doesn't sound too good for me, but I'm lookin' everywhere anyway! Did a burnout in the drive the other day and ran out of gas backing up to put it away! Good time to look on top of tank! A friend bought a '70 malibu a few yrs. ago and we found a sheet under front seat (bench), typical for '70, then he pulled dr. side door panel off and there was another in pristine condition glued to the back of the panel!
