Is the shifter handle from an early 70's hurst oem shifter the same as was used on the '69s? Thanks for the help.

My Chilton's, Copyright 1973, shows pictures of linkages. 3-spd's are classed in the years as follows: 67, 68, and 69-72. 4-spd's are as follows:67-69, and 70-72.

Hope this helps. Others may know more.

Thanks for the info on the rods. I was really looking for info on the chrome handle for the shifter, though. Does anyone have a pic of a "correct" 70-72 shifter?

Thanks again

The 1969 Camaro round stick OEM Hurst shifter is different then the 1970-71 Camaro round stick OEM Hurst shifter. I believe Camaro only used a Hurst shifter from 1969 to 1971 but Firebird used them 1968 to 1981. There were many different round Hurst sticks as GTOs had them as did Dodge Duster and I think the Darts and other cars. There shoud be a number stamped in the stick but it is on the flat that is inserted into the shifter holder. The number for the 1970 -71 Camaro is 7433 with or without console.
I am sort of a Hurst collector
here is a picture from left is 69 Camaro, 70s Firebird, 70 Camaro

Great information, Joe! Just what I was looking for. I was actually talking about the '70s Firebird shifter. They show up on epay all the time listed for a Camaro, and that's what I was going by. Do you know what the number is on that handle? Thanks again for the information.

I am not up on the Firebird shifters but they used more then one round Hurst stick. The one in middle of my pic is mid 1970's Firebird. I think that stick number is 7244. You have to remove the stick to see the number. Don't use ebay as a research source. They see the high price of the 69 Camaro Hurst so they list every round stick Hurst as 69 Camaro. Hurst made many different OEM and aftermarket shifters and many only fit one engine/body combination. For example the 67-68 Camaro aftermarket Hurst (complete unit) is different then the 69 Camaro aftermarket Hurst.

Thanks again. There's lots of stuff labeled '69 Camaro on ebay that aren't right! I was hoping to find another source for the shifter handle. Was the 5325 handle only use for the '69 Camaro?

the 5325 stick was used on 68-69 Firebird also. One of the GTO sticks is pretty close to the Camaro stick. It and can be converted to a bolt on style and used on the aftermarket 69 Camaro Hurst shifter. The aftermarket Hurst is a better shifter and many people used to convert the press in OEM round stick to use on the bolt on style aftermarket Hurst shifter

Actually, I've been looking for a handle to put on my aftermarket shifter. That was the original intent of this post. You've given me alot more information than I expected to get! You don't happen to know what the number of the GTO handle is, or what the exact application was, do you? That way I can be on the lookout for it as well.

Thanks again
