Hello all. I wanted to get some opinions from you all on a motor. My brother is coming up from Texas in June and he wants to rebuild the 350 in his K5 Blazer.
He wants to pep it up a bit so I suggested that I would find out some info on the Vortec heads and such.

From what I can gather we will need a special intake for his TBI setup and a couple of smaller adapters. I am concerned with the fact that Texas has emissions testing. I would like to suggest a cam for his application that will work well with his heads AND be emissions friendly. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also, are the Vortec heads in Jegs the same as the ones on 96 and up trucks? I am wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper for him to buy a used set, go through them use em'.
Thanks in advance!

Sure go to the cam company sites and look through their cat's for cams that have an "EO" rating somewhere in their spec's or write-up about them.

The "EO" designation means it is "Executive Order" Aproved by CARB or some such legal deal that makes them smog legal nation wide!!

Comp cams site list the Pure Energy and some High Energy cams as CARB approved and the footnote at the bottom of the page lists the EO number.

AND I think you have to keep the EO label from whatever product you changed to in your glovebox to verify that the part is indeed EO Approved at Inspection Time if asked about the part(s) by the State Inspector...
