I hope someone can help me out here. I have a 66 chevelle that has a 383 with a turbo 350 tranny. Don't drive it much, just take it out about once every couple of months. When I put her to bed about two months back everything seemed to be in good working order.

This morning I took it out and it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. This is the fist time that this has happened so I'm kind of in the dark......anyone have words of wisdom?

Have you tried to shift it manually through the grears?

If it shifts manually, it could be just a vacuum problem to the modulator.

check the modulator and also check to make sure that there is plenty of fluid in it.. a tranny that is low will only shift so far. Sometimes to second and other times not.

sound like the modulator.

check to see if it has vacum hose hooked to it OR the rubber hose is split or torn

If the vacuum hose and modulator check out OK.... check the governor gear under the round press on steel cover.

the gear is plastic

I agree with Crosley, check the governor, sometimes the plastic gear on the governor shaft breaks, governor doesn't spin, no upshift.
