View Full Version : Pace Car question
click May 9th, 05, 08:22 PM Could a 69 pace car come with a Powerglide tranny? A pace car for sale in NY has a 2speed PwrGlide, guessing that was a replacement tranny? It also has a 10bolt rear end in it, hope to get the numbers in a few days, but did Pace cars come with a 10bolt?
Kermi May 9th, 05, 09:32 PM I have never seen a pacer with a glide in it. Also it should have a 12 bolt because it was a SS. If it was a norwood car it will have Z11 on the cowltag which tell you it was a true pacecar .
KevinW May 10th, 05, 07:51 AM It can happen, because you can order a small block pacer just like any SS350. So if you did not check off a console or optional transmission when ordering, you get column shift with a powerglide and possibly a 10 bolt. I saw a un-restored column shifted PG pacer a couple of years ago, but I did not look at the rearend.
From CRG:
GM documentation indicates that the LM1 and L48 with M35 or M38 (350/4-barrels with automatic transmissions) were to receive a 10-bolt rear axle with multi-leaf spring. However, the physical evidence shows LM1/M35, LM1/M38, and L48/M38 vehicles actually received 12-bolt axles. Physical evidence on L48/M35 cars (SS-350 with PowerGlide transmission) is still limited, but indicates that at least the later builds received 10-bolt, multi-leaf axles; axle use for early 69 L48/M35 vehicles remains unclear. CRG continues to research this issue.
Kurt S May 10th, 05, 03:16 PM Jim,
Please get the #'s for this car.
Yes, any small block could get a powerglide. An SS350 / powerglide car likely would be a 10 bolt. Steve K, a member of this site, has a pacer just like that.....
Don't see many of them, hence my interest.
> Also it should have a 12 bolt because it was a SS.
That's a incorrect statement for 1969. :)

Chuck L Jun 11th, 05, 05:26 AM Jim,
Anymore on this car? Where did you here about it?
click Jun 11th, 05, 09:01 AM it was for sale in our classifieds and the guy never called me back or sent the pics he promised to send, so I dropped it. :(
acelr8 Jun 12th, 05, 09:33 PM The car can exist.There is 1 like it in ST.Louis.A doc 2 owner. 350, powerglide,10 bolt.P.S under resto not for sale.
Kurt S Jun 13th, 05, 10:31 AM acelr8,
I'd be interested in some data from this car. Out of almost 4000 69's that we have data on, there are just a handful of L48/PowerGlides in the database.
Feel free to email me directly at KurtS2@peoplepc.com.
Thanks!
Chuck L Jun 13th, 05, 11:11 AM acelr8,
Are you sure that car is still in St. Louis? I will be leaving Knoxville, Tn. going to Cuba, MO. this week to pick up some 1/4 panels for a car I have and would like to see and talk with this owner. Can you get in touch with him?
I will be gone for 2-1/2 weeks on this trip. I will be Los Angeles by weeks end and trip will end in PA at the Camaro show.
BradSS1969 Oct 2nd, 05, 05:53 AM Yes Jim some pacecars came with a powerglide and on the column at that. My neighbor bought one new and that is the way it came, and hers had the 12 bolt 308 gear, no consol or tach either. Brad.
