I have a Muncie 22 but just want to make sure it is a 69 Camaro. The person removed it from a x66 car. The following is the numbers:
P9H11C
A38499
Main Case: 3925660
Tail Shaft: 3978764

P (TYPE) = MUNCIE
9 (YEAR) = 1969
H (MTH) = JUNE
11 (DAY) = 11TH
C (MODEL) = M22
The partial VIN number (A38499 ) is a digit short or possibly incorrect for a Camaro. Where was the partial VIN number stamped. On the internediate plate on the passenger side or on top of the main case. The trans might be from a GTO or another Chev model if the VIN you entered is correct. In either case the date stamp (P9H11C) is correct for a 69 chev with an M22. Maybe double check the partial vin and see if there is a 6 in front of that 38499. If so then it would be right in line with a June dated Camaro.
The part numbers you listed for the main case and the tail shaft are also correct for 1969. Provided nobody changed the internals, it would appear a genuine M22 transmission. You can open the side cover and inspect to see if it has the straight cut gears. A couple more obvious clues will be a drain plug along the passenger side on all M22 cases and a course spline input shaft with no seperations across the splines.
An input shaft from an M21 has one line across the grooves on the shaft and an M20 has 2 lines across it. M22 input shafts can also have a fine spline input shaft but a 10 spline shaft was used on all 69 cars.
Be sure you get a reputable Muncie builder to go through it for you as it might need syncro's, bearings, bushings and some gear repairs. Alays use a good Hays gold clutch when you put it into something with some power:)

Thanks for the info. The number A38499 was right under the P9H11C, I could not find the vin on top of the trans or on the mid plate. I was told the trans was rebuilt. All the visual identifications you mentioned are exact with the drain plugs, course front shaft and fine output shaft. Could GM have missed stamping the vin, or was the midplate changed during the rebuilt??
Thanks
