Having been a "Camarohead" for the last 26 yrs, ( having owned 3), I was trying to convince the wife to spend more money on the current project, when she says she want's a Vette. She does like muscle cars and enjoys the time we have driving the 68,.. but it lacks the modern conveniences like A/C, power windows, cup holders, etc. and she thinks it's too loud. She wants a sports car that is more ours than mine,.. something she can drive as well. ( she is afraid to drive the 68). I now regret commenting on how nice the new Vettes are not thinking she would want one at the sacrifice of the Camaro. ( I must admit that I want one too) I mention that we could afford both if we get a new house with 4 car garage. LOL .. (she's not laughing). She says we can stay put if I sell the 68. LOL.. ( I'm not laughing) Not wanting to do either,.. I told her that for fun I would put the ? out to this forum to see what everybody thinks. Please be kind, as she is a lady and I have to live with her afterwards. :D

Ya know that a Diamond sez..."Go away for a little while and let me work on my car". A Vette gives her a way to get there. :D

383, I think the rock will be cheaper than a new vette. However, I have a brother in Paso Robles, who has a late model vette for sale. Super nice with a couple suspension mods and aftermarket wheels-$28,000. Let me know if you want his number. Tom

Been there, done that...sold 2 '67 Z's for a 2002 Z06. 18 months later sold the Z06 and am looking for another Z - difference is that my pocket is now $12,000 lighter! If you can handle the depreciation, C5's are cool cars, but don't forget that the C6 is about to break, so C5 values will drop even further. Keep the '68 and buy the wife a nice C3 driver Vette with A/C - best of both world's with no depreciation graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Everyone that I know that has a Vette complains about the quality. They all seem to start out real cool and nice and then deteriorate very rapidly. Lots of rattles, t-tops leak, windows stop going up and down, etc... Best indication of how happy people generally are with their cars is to look at how many 2 and 3 year old ones are for sale. Definately plenty of used Vettes for sale. Best way to get rid of a bunch of money fast is to buy a Vette!

Unfortunatly vettes don't seem to hold there value very well unless yoiu can afford a classic. I sure took a beating on my c4!! (sold it with well over 100,000 miles though) There is a very nice c4 for sale on the Corvetteforum right now -if the wife would let me I would be all over this one! http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=707325 great looking car. As it is now I don't plan on ever owning a vette again. They are fairly high maintenance and parts for them aint cheap!

It sounds like she lets you do what you want. Get her what she wants. Buy her a nice used C4 Vett driver.

The C5s are nice but this is a second car for her, correct? If second car, yes? Get the C4. If it's her primary car, search out a C5. (Stay away from the 2002 ZO6, it has a nasty oil leak that requires Chevy to pull in engine to fix.)

Any woman that walks across the floor and mutters the words, Camaro, Vett, Cobra, or Cuda, deserves what ever she wants.

Scoop...that's the 2001 Z06 that had the oil burning problem. It was resolved for 2002.

We had a 91 Vette before the 67 camaro. My wife liked to drive it to work and on the weekends. She had a Jeep Cherokee only drove the Vette when she wanted to. I would buy a C4 they are about at the bottom of the price drop a nice car will hold its value and go up in a few years. I bought the 91 in 1998 for $9500.00 and sold it in 2001 for $8500.00.Definatly got a grand worth of fun out of it.

Thanks Guys for all the informative responses so far.. We are getting a kick out of reading them.
I think now she has a better understanding of the passion associated with our cars of choice.
She still wants the Vette, but it is more in perspective to her now. She knows that I love the 1st Gens. and would never expect me to be without one. I informed her that we could sell this one and find a conv. w/AC. She liked that idea but knows that I like to build em like I was still 18.
She doesn't feel comfortable driving something so radical. For now I will take her to E-pay just to show her pics. of the different models.
I agree that she doesn't necessarily need a new one. ( she is out of the room now, so I can say that)! There will be a Vette in our future for sure, maybe not right away, but I agree with all of you that she is deserving of a sports car she can have fun with, the way we have fun with ours.
I / we appreciate all of your input.

Right on! I did get the O.K. for SOME more money spent on the 68!
What she doesn't know is that I had planned to get her an upgrade rock on Valentines day. SHHHHH
I must love my job, because I spend so much time there! :D

Regarding 2001. Thanks Mark. I stand corrected.

I only mentioned it because Chevy was doing a good job of covering their tracks on that one and wanted to be sure 383 knew of it.

Owner: I'd like to schedule for the oil fix.
Chevy: What oil fix?
Owner: The Vett oil problem.
Chevy: Vett oil problem?

You get the idea. Don't ya just love dealer service departments?
