garfield Aug 19th, 02, 11:04 PM I was just sitting here thinking about all the vast and diverse amount of people we have in this forum and all of the unlimited kowledge that is made avaliable throughout this site.
I can't help but wonder "How many professions do we have in here?" I myself am a Telecommunications Specialist for a phone company called SBC Ameritech. Tell us, What is YOUR profession and what exactly do you do for a living. (I can understand that for some this might be a bit personal, so if you don't answer, hey, that's cool too) but for those of us who live to "stand out" http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif, Tell us what you do for a living that makes you so valuable to the rest of us http://www.camaros.net/forum/cool.gif

That's big buisness.

rojo Aug 20th, 02, 03:08 AM Well, I do about the same thing as Joe. Take care of a network and support PCs, do a little database programming, make sure the phone system stays alive and well. They found out I can turn a wrench and hammer a nail so I've inherited some building maintenance responsibilities as well. The way things are these days, as long as the pay check keeps coming I don't mind doing what I'm asked to do.

RockyMtnRacer Aug 20th, 02, 03:17 PM I've been in the purchasing and supply chain management business for a long damn time! Spent about 14 years in aerospace and the last 10 running departments for a couple of startup tech companies. Most recently I ended up running marketing, business planning, IS and business operations for an international small business. That was pretty cool until they ran out of money. So I've been doing some consulting work and looking for a job. That last part really sucks with the economy in the toilet.

Rich69RS/SS Aug 21st, 02, 07:13 AM Years ago my mom hired a clown once for the grandkids birthday party and the guy showed up drunk. Mom got pissed cussed him out and threw him out ,it was pretty funny ("Grandma the clown smells"). Another time I was cruising down the freeway and I saw a clown driving in a old Chevy station wagon with baloons flying around inside and writing on the windows in white shoe polish that said "Bingo the Clown" Birthday Parties. So I pulled up along side and he had his clown suit on with the wig off but the make up still on with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth just looking so pissed off. I still laugh when I think about it, tough way to make a buck.

Scoop69RS-SS Aug 21st, 02, 09:41 AM I am a program, or project manager, depending on the scope of the job. I do custom system integrations, about twenty plus years now. Worked on the storage for Camelot, the United Kingdom Lottery. DoD labs, genome/proteinonics mapping. Crawled through the buildings at Sandia National Labs. I have the largest Linux based super computer in the world. Not bragging, but I am very proud of it. Fact is, I am just a team member at the end of the day.
From Digital, to Compaq and now HP, I wonder what the future holds? Employment may be coming to an end with weeks. <sigh>
But I do love the planned mayhem of aggresive projects.

It's a great job, but the hours can wear you down, I'm sure that happens in a lot of professions. Flown in everything from B-17 bombers to Falcon 900 Business jets. Wrenched on everything from Beech 18s to F16s to Boeing 727s. I can't imagine a more exciting career. (Flown a few of them too).

If you're thinking about having Lasik surgery, go to a place that has IntraLASIK (the all laser solution), the complications associated with the flap creation in the traditional Lasik are NOT worth the risk. You've only got one set of eyes!

bonecrusher67conv Aug 22nd, 02, 02:13 PM I'm an Electric System Operator for the high voltage transmission system or otherwise known as the poster boy for EMF (Electro Magnetic Fields). The magnetic strip on my credit cards only last about 6 months before being wiped out by EMF. Parlty a result of throwing gang operated air switches on 500,000 volt and below equipment routinely. However, I prefer the planning of future installations of new equipment transparently and figuring out the new high tech black boxes that come with the trade. I also call out those poor troublemen and linemen in the middle of the night to climb up poles in pouring rain. All I need is the proper word from the state and the company and I'll drop 250,000 customers without flinching. Operating the electric system is whole bunch less stressful than operating a nuclear reactor, which I did 17 years ago when I was a young speed demon punk. Back then, I had a 71 Cuda and a 72 Lotus Europa.

Anyway, I am currently looking for a new position that will pay somewhere more closely to what I am worth and still leave me with some self esteem. You've got the most important job hands down. Some of the guys at the hangar flew in Nam, Lybia and in the Gulf war. I have nothing but respect and admiration for them and the rest of you guys out there on the front lines for us. Our Chief Inspector was a Herc Crew Chief in Nam. Falcons, Warthogs, 135s all shoot approaches here and he doesn't budge, but when the mighty Herc shoots the ILS he was always on a dead run to watch it go by. Great machine. Thank you guys and God speed you home safely to your loved ones.

I used to sit at home and answer questions on the Team Camaro web site all day but soon I will have a new job! I will be an Energy Analyst. I will work for a consulting engineering firm and do risk management, energy market analysis, futures trading and probably teach the newbies as time goes on. It will be a new challenge for me as I have spent most of my career as a Mechanical Engineer. The last few years I have been a Mr. Mom by day and a MBA student at night. This is a bit of a happy thing/sad thing story. I will surely enjoy my new career but I will realy miss my old "job" here at Team Camaro. Time will become much more scarce and I will still be around but not in the capacity I have enjoyed here since Feb of this year. I just checked and noticed I have posted almost 1200 times in the past 7 months or so. What a total wind bag I am!
I regret that I must tender my "resignation" effective September 3rd. Thank you all. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Codi Aug 26th, 02, 09:19 AM Well....here go's. I am a criminal investigator for the county's prosecuting attorney (DA). Spent 16 years on a local police department doing everything there is to do. Been here for 10 years. Currently I am part of a unit that chases deadbeat parents. There are 9 investigators at the office, each with a certain " expertise". When we aren't busy with our assigned caseload (deadbeats, consumer fraud, etc.), we may be assigned to assist other agencies in criminal investigations (CSI stuff, only not as neat or dramatic). As an investigator in the "Support Enforcement Division", parents who, by court order, are to pay child support, and fail to do so can and will be investigated, indicted, convicted of a Felony, and at this point, either pay support (as ordered by the courts) or go to prison (not jail). My area of expertise ia auto crash investigations. You bend em, I figure out how. Between mad mommies and drunk drivers (I need Shadow 53) I am kept busy. My stress relief are two kids (Bubba and ricochet) and my 69 Camaro. There is a wife in here somewhere that JUST got a fulltime teaching position so I can lay off a little (YAHOO).
Black69 Aug 26th, 02, 12:14 PM I'm also in law enforcment. I've worked there for 27 years. Mostly criminal investigation such as homicide, burglary, rape, and also the drug end. My 69 is my Stess Relief!! In my earlier life, (college) I had a hard time with cops, never thought I'd be one. I can't count the number of tickets I got, never did try to out run them though, and I know I could have.

JWA Aug 26th, 02, 06:42 PM Diffusion furnace tech for Hewlett Packard(semiconductor plant for print cartridges etc). Part-time F-15 Avionics tech for the Oregon Air National Guard. been doing the military thing since 84. Worked Electronic Warfare on B-52s, RF-4Cs, A-10s. You be amazed at what we could do to a Law enforcement radar gun when detected by a B-52 http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif. Crew Chief F-15s (ORANG) 5.5 years before getting back into Avionics( Comm/Nav/"penetration aids" http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif) Have gotten to spend time in Panama, Germany, Scotland, Iceland, Saudi etc. I am amazed at some of the cool things I have gotten to do. My next project for the ANG is to become ground engine run qualified on our F-15s this fall http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/yea2.gif

Great cusine, nothing beats that.
HawaiianCamaro Aug 26th, 02, 10:28 PM ace841 Being a Air Force Cop at one time I understand just what you mean. Another way to look at it would be to walk behind a B-51 with Quad 50's out the back only to hear the click click click of the guns following you. Sometimes I think the air crew would leave on the tracking on purpose!!!!!

The large California energy users are getting stuck with huge taxes on their energy usage. For example US Posco (steel mill in your area) is paying close to a 50% tax on their energy bills. We're all going to be paying for it.

Codi Aug 27th, 02, 07:16 AM I can't believe the responses. The amount and (probably) quality of assorted talent in the responses is unreal. I have to agree with one of the responses, i.e., the names of positions. Some are just damn cool. To Black69, you and I have about the same amount of time in. Just a few more years and it's good-bye office, hello "TOY BOX"! In my 26 years, I've been a street cop (wrote to few citations), investigations (everything you can imagine, mostly yucky and gooy), administration (watched my old chief get fired), and shift commander. I thought when I accepted the offer to work for the prosecutor, I would be working M-F 8 to 5, weekends and holidays off. NOT! They gave me a car (Crown Vic cruiser), phone, pager, and cell phone. I get called upon at all hours of the day or night, any day, any night. I thought I left that behind. BUT! It is the best damn job in the world and I am one lucky guy. Now that I am done bouncing from excitement to pis@^%^ and moaning, I think the people on this sight are the best and I am very glad I became a part of this site. I have been helped by many and I have tried to help a few. Someday, while walking into my local Wal Mart, I hope to see a "Team Camaro" shirt under the WalMart vest of the greeter. Now, that would be REAL!

SY1 Aug 30th, 02, 08:38 PM 130fe,
I spent two week at Falcon Jet in Little Rock last August. If 100 degrees and 90% humidity everyday with zero wind is typical, (it was those two weeks), then the school house enviroment has got to be a killer. Man I don't know how you guys get used to those temps and humidity!
Jeff aka Hawaiiancamaro,
Those 50s tracking you would be an eery feeling! I remember a similar experience just before the Gulf War. Everyone was getting current before deployment and we'd stop work and go out to watch the f16s shoot approaches. Only thing was a few times they weren't lined up on the runway or taxiways. They were coming right down the hangar line. Strange feeling thinking someone's locked onto you.
