AM/FM radios didn't have an antenna on the rear quarter, it was mounted on the right front fender. Oh and I almost forgot, you could not get a rear mount antenna with a spoiler, unles the dealer added it. The spoiler would hit the antenna when the lid was opened, so if you car had a spoiler and AM radio, the antenna would have been mounted on the right front fender. Uncle Tupelo May 12th, 05, 04:01 PM My car has a front right fender antenna, and just the factory AM radio. Never had a spoiler either. 67CruiseMasterCamaro May 12th, 05, 04:55 PM Actually the U73 was an option to first gen Camaro's. U73 was rear mount antenna. According to CRG and Chevrolet documentation, rear antenna was not available with U69 (push button AM/FM radio), U70 (AM/FM stereo radio) or D80 (rear spoiler). My Chevelle has the rear antenna option and of course, only AM...wanted to put an amfam in there...but would have been wrong. All I know is I have the original AM pushbutton, and my antenna is mounted on the front right fender. Is that right? 67CruiseMasterCamaro May 12th, 05, 05:58 PM Yepp, Unc, the original owner ordered the AM radio, but didn't specify on the order sheet for the rear antenna. That is why the antenna is mounted on the front fender. SandiegoZ28, maybe the reason for Chevrolet not offering the rear antenna with the AM/FM was the length of the antenna cable. This is only a guess on my part and I am in no way an expert in electronics. Sorry if I confused you Unc. Not sure what all that means...LOL. So the deal was that she, the original owner , did not specify that she wanted a rear mounted antenna and the default was to go right front. I think I got ya now. :beers: 67CruiseMasterCamaro May 12th, 05, 06:14 PM Now you got it. :D No..not your fault...I am easily confused when all those code #'s start flying. In addition, the AIM (Assembly Manual) also has all the RPO codes listed and shows how they were installed. Camaro White Book: http://www.corvetteblackbook.com/otherbooks/camarowhite.html. It's also available from Amazon for about $11. Hans Scott Taylor May 13th, 05, 08:36 AM Pat, The car in question is a '68 which muddies the question a bit. On our '67 models if the car was ordered with a rear antenna there would be a 2S code on the trim tag. The default location is the passenger side front fender. It seems that 68's , based on what I've seen on these boards, are harder to code correctly. Is that a safe assumption? Without a build sheet or POP you can tell very little (definitavely) about the '68 models. Uncle Tupelo May 13th, 05, 10:27 AM That is correct. If a '67, for example, had the RS option it had 3L on the cowl tag, but a 68 has no such designation. The only (usefull) information contained on the '68 cowl tag is the interior color and the paint code. Uncle Tupelo May 13th, 05, 11:06 AM They stopped putting option information on the cowl tags. I know my cowl tag is full of info...it would have seemed smart to continue that. Flynn69 May 22nd, 05, 02:29 PM Could you order the SS package with a rear antena. Thanks |
