I sent this to the seller:

"I just want to tell you that this car is one of the nicest Z-28 clones that I have ever come across, really took me back. The fake trim tag can be likened to the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. A big, fat, fake plastic ice cream sundae. Looks real good for those who don't know any better!!"

I will post if he responds.

No need to be a jerk about it.... if you don't like it... don't bid.
Sending a rude email only makes you look silly...

On the car, did I miss something? I didn't see a VIN posted off the car. How do you know it isn't a Z car? I assume that that is a fake X77 tag or something?

Obviously, it wasn't restored to be a concours original car... just a fast toy.

I am not going to bid on it, and I am not going to send the seller a message. But for the price- as a Z-28 ( it IS listed as an X-77) investment, I have a few concerns or questions- personally. Most likely is a cool car, so if someone wants to shell out the $$$, then I guess that is peachy!

Perhaps the question to the seller should be " IS this an authentic factory Z-28 Camaro?). Hopefully it is.

As Tony has said, the trim tag is for a different month build. That tag actually belongs to a September month build car. The tag does look original to me. If the car was built in December as per the VIN on the block, the VIN would be 530338 to551862. More than likely toward the 551862. And, yes Mccory, the VIN is listed in the description for the motor.

I called the guy, his name is Buddy Hollier and lives in Louisiana. The story with the car is this: The motor is not original, but the trim tag is. The VIN has been removed from the dash and been smoothed over to look like it was never there. Buddy took a clear title from a donor car and used that to register this one. Buddy told me that when he bought the car it only had the trim tag and no VIN. He also said that the car has been repainted several times, so he said he could not find the VIN under the cowl panel, and was not going to waste his time removing the heater box to get that one either. His reserve is $40,000. Just like his auction says, if the reserve is met the buyer will have a choice to also take the other DZ motor. He would not give me details about the other motor. He also gave me a sad story about the VIN, saying that "you don't need a VIN in Louisiana, only a title to register the car". Well, if you take that car to another state, that state will have to verify the VIN. I know you have to do that here in Nevada anyway. The rear axle is not original. It is a 10 bolt posi which was built up for his car. The car does have a M21 though. His story is so scary, so much money involved and someone is going to get taken if they check out the car personally.

Let's see; swapped vin (if the story above is accurate) or better yet no VIN, fake trim tag from December of 68 with X77D80 (tags been sort of aged to look like it's been on the firewall for a while), September of 69 build engine with a VIN of 19N692184 (maybe it's the original VIN of this car, maybe not, but the trim tag is still fake) NK1 steering wheel, the console gauges were added (no clock in dash), AM/FM antenna mast with an AM radio. Black repro grille instead of the argent silver Z28 grille. It's got all the X33 chrome highlights, yet it's an X77 tag and a 10 bolt axle. It even has the engine tie down straps from the motor mount recall. Only problem is that they are on the passenger side, not the drivers side like they should be (check out the second to last engine picture).

If this thing is worth 15K in parts (because theres no way anyone is ever going to get it registered) I'd be surprised.

I'm with Mark I was talking about the tag being a fake maybe a 01 model
year.Never heard of a state you didn't have to have a vin for the car. Some
don't require a title but looks like all would have to have a vin to ID the car.

This guy will likely have some serious 'splainin" to do to someone. He sure needs to clean up the add by adding a few little details. Thumbs down for me too!

I agree with all you guys. I only called him to get specific information about the car then post what I found here. I asked him to get the original VIN off of the car, like under the heater box or under the cowl panel. When and if I do get that information I will post it here for everyone and for CRG's sake. I for one was very concerned about the legitamacy of that car and was willing to expose it to protect our hobby.
