i want to restore it but i am not sure on the "color". i know it should be natural but what brand of paint is a real close match?

also i want to reproduce the "ptb" markings on the firewall. would someone be willing to loan me their stamp kit ? i would be more than willing to pay for shipping both ways?? thanks.....

There isn't any way a painted driveshaft will look correct. They were fabricated from uncoated steel tubing but did have painted identifying stripes, usually 3, near the middle. Around here they rusted quickly. We tried blasting and painting the OE shaft from our '67 Z/28 but the appearance was unsatisfactory. We had a new tube fabbed by a driveshaft shop and it looked great, even re-used the factory square weights.

I sand blasted mine and coated it with Monolec by Lubrication Engineers in an aerosol can. I have also heard of people using BoeShield. It is basically an oil that absorbs into the metal and repels moisture. The salesman said that a lot of oil field workers spray it on cable to keep them from rusting on top and throughout the cable itself.

When done it appears as a dull, waxey finish and really looks great in my opinion. Just like bare metal because it is. If I had known of this before I would have used it on other parts as well. All you do is spray it on liberally and walk away.

BTW, I plan on ordering a case (12 cans) this week. The first can I received was complimentary from the salesman. I have to order in bulk but I really love this stuff and do not mind. If interested, let me know and I will sell you a can at cost. 12 cans would last me a lifetime!!

I used a wire wheel hooked to my grinder to take the rust off then used a clear satin paint to keep it from rusting. It looks ok.

For my 67 Z28, I took my old driveshaft to Drivelines NW and they fabricated a new one for me (perfectly balanced, beautifully welded, correct heavy duty U-joints) and left it unpainted. I then protected it with BoeShield and recoated it about a year later. It's perfect.

Here is the link to the MONOLEX (not Monolec, shame on me) and what it is designed to do.

FYI, I have a case (12 cans) on the way. My cost is $6.50/can. If anyone wants some let me know. Freight would probaly be around $5.00. I imagine 2 cans would ship for about the same price as one. I would like to keep 2-3 cans for myself.

I'll take 2 cans. Let me know where to send the money, and I'll get it right out to you.
