: Problem Protecto Plate

I have a 69 z/28 with a protecto plate that has some issues. The transmission code refers to a 68 model year and the month of build is "J". The casting numbers for the driveline are correct as well as the pad stamp on the block! It's an early nowood car so no x code.

1. I have heard of fake build sheets, and restamped blocks but never fake protecto plates.....maybe I'm just outta the loop. Are fake protecto plates a reality. Any one got solid proof, not rumors or a buddy of mine stories. If you were going to produce a fake protecto plate wouldn't you get it RIGHT!

2. Are there any documented cases of manufacturing mistakes with p-o-p?

Yes, there are fake protecto plates out there, and yes the factory made tons of typos on protecto plates.

I recently sold a 68 COPO that has a O7E build date and the P-O-P shows the tranny as a feb. of 68 build date and this P-O-P is thr real deal, so there can be some wide variations between build dates...........

And I thought my old Address-o-Graph machine (used to type on plate) in the back was worthless. :)
