The first quesiton is could a 69 Z28 EVER come without power brakes?
Tag looks good but what happened to the power brake booster.
smith69z May 16th, 05, 05:39 PM No 7 blade fan either??

It's been removed.
69inpieces May 16th, 05, 10:42 PM I'm curious to see if the previous owner buys it back or quits bidding just shy of the reserve?????
olympic69 May 16th, 05, 11:18 PM With a few items excepted, it look s pretty good to me. Of course it would need a full review to pass muster, but this one may be OK.
Cheers,
Rob
68SSCamaroinKS May 17th, 05, 07:19 AM I am not that old to remember (born in 74') but didn't some people remove the power disks to make the cars lighter? Seems like an old school guy told me that.
x44d80 May 17th, 05, 08:23 AM Yes,racers removed the booster, especially if you had a big block, tall rocker covers etc.
spideynut May 18th, 05, 10:10 PM Ya if thats not a real Z its pretty close. Not saying a clone is anything close but this guys got most the goods. Does it have front disks. I just looked at the pics again and noticed no console guages. wierd.
mister_copo May 18th, 05, 10:48 PM Don't know why you call that weird, as 1,410 cars were shipped as U16 Gauge options which denotes Center Fuel Gauge, Tach & Speedo only.
A lot more cars were shipped with the U17 Option which denotes Special Instrumentation (Full Gauges with Console Cluster). Any car could be ordered with the D55 Center Console and it's really not that uncommon to see cars without a gauge cluster. Just look around and you will quickly see what I am saying.
Cars looks to be a real Z and the Trim Tag is original and untouched. I would however say that the car seems to be pieced together out of a lot of misc parts and might be a bit of a scab project to an unknowing buyer who isn't ready for a full blown restoration. I'd look all the parts over really well before bidding and would ask a lot of questions. Bell housing appears not to have the 403 part number as well. Shifter is correct. Who knows what is or isn't there until you see the pile of parts up close.
Smith69......
All Z/28 cars had "SMALL BLOCKS (302ci), and all had Power Disks as a standard option. They might have had the booster removed if it was raced and the camshaft was too large to make enough vacuum to run the power brakes. They should have a 9204 Booster with a 309 Master c/w Bleeder screws as standard equipment with front disks and rear drums and all Z's had a special proportioning valve located along the frame rail just below the driver seat. It controlled the rear power drum brakes and regulated them when you were hard on the brakes.
Hope that helps you out a bit.
Good project, but nothing more and an X77 car at that.

Not quite true. Early cars had 346 masters. And for months beyond that, Z's didn't have the rear valve. Go figure....
U16 (notice the center fuel gauge) was a $ saver. I've seen several cars with U16 and a console, though it's an odd combo.
Fan is not the original.
69inpieces,
How do you know the prior owner is bidding on it??
ChevyThunder May 18th, 05, 11:50 PM My Garnet Red Z is a U 16 guage car..center fuel gauge where the clock usually is..no console, just a Hurst shifter stickin through the floor :) Bare bones ..it does have the D80 package but nothing else..
smith69z May 19th, 05, 08:31 AM Thanks guys!
Does the VO519DZ (May) match up with the trim tag #
NOR340607. Is this the correct number range for a May built motor??

Does that imply that the X77 trim level is not as desireable as the others?

NOR340607. Is this the correct number range for a May built motor??
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it could be the matching engine, at least as I understand it.
The trim tag says "05E" which means that the car was built the 5th week of May. The engine code "V0519" means that the engine was built on May 19th so I'm thinking that it's certainly possible for this to be the correct engine being that the engine was produced before the car was built. If on the other hand, the engine was built after the car...we'd have a problem.
William May 19th, 05, 11:19 AM Not really. Our 06E '67 Z/28 had a July 6 engine, verified by p-o-p.
69inpieces May 19th, 05, 01:11 PM Kurt S,
I don't want to bash anyone in a public forum, but if you want, send me a PM and I'll share what I know to be fact.
Kurt S May 19th, 05, 07:33 PM Does that imply that the X77 trim level is not as desireable as the others?
Not really. In the right color, it looks better without all the shiny stuff!
Kurt S May 19th, 05, 07:35 PM Not really. Our 06E '67 Z/28 had a July 6 engine, verified by p-o-p.
Bill is right (of course!). But that car is an exception to what you generally see.
mister_copo May 19th, 05, 09:57 PM Does that imply that the X77 trim level is not as desireable as the others?
Not at all!
I have owned both X77 and X33 cars, and the latter of the two cars simply has more brilliance to me. Both are neat cars, and as Kurt said, the right color combo on an X77 car looks just great, but my own personal preference is for a style trim group car. I guess I like the drip rail, wheel opening mouldings, and the quarter trim more than an undressed car. I have always loved the Z22 (Rallysport) optioned cars which as you may know can only be ordered with an X33 trim option.
All Z's have a fan base of their own, and I would not say that any given one is the lesser of the 2 evils. Anyone who owns a 69 Camaro to me, is a person worth knowing. Afterall, our parents didn't bring us up driving Honda's!
Now that was a shot! (lol)
