Hello....

I was wondering what is correct for my air cleaner. There are two ports leading out, one for the A.I.R. pump and one for the mixture control valve. The AIM shows only one flame screen used and it goes on the port to the mixture control valve. My question is: Is another supposed to be on the port leading to the pump too or is there only one needed and the pump should be left wide open? I have a '67 350.

Thanks,
Al

Al:

Your 350 equiped California car has both the RPO-K19 A.I.R. and the RPO-K24 Closed Ventilation System.
The Air Cleaner assembly has two outlets, as you discribed. One going to the Air Pump Inlet and the other should go to the Crankcase Vent Inlet tube assembly, mounted on the rear of the engine block casting next to the distributor base. This is the fresh air inlet to the crankcase.
The filter outlet leading to the crankcase vent tube is the one that has a Flame Arrestor on it. The Air Pump inlet does not have an arrestor.
"The AIM shows only one flame screen used and it goes on the port to the mixture control valve" - ??? - not my copy of the AIM... The RPO-K19 diagram shows the air filter housing outlet tubes going to the AIR pump inlet and the crankcase vent inlet, as I discribed.
By 'mixture control valve', I think you are refering to the Diverter Valve for the AIR pump. It is in a remote location on the outlet hose of the AIR pump on 67's, just after the "Y" at the check valve to the right (passenger) side exhaust manifold inject tube assembly. The outlet hose from the diverter should be routed to a fitting on the carb.

Hope this helps.

Thanks John. That's a big help. When I bought my Camaro it didn't have any arrestor. I was lucky and found a GM screen at a wrecking yard. I noticed that there were two ports and just wanted to make sure I didn't need another.
