I'm bringing home a new 383 (350sbc with "internally balanced" 400 crank) in a couple of days. Can I use the flywheel from my original 327, 3-speed manual console shifter setup. It's a 153 tooth flywheel using a 10.5 inch clutch.

I plan to run the 3-speed until I can afford an automatic or TKO 5-speed, so I really don't want to spend $200+ on a new flywheel if I don't have to. Can I re-use what I've got?

Thanks,
Rob C.

Rob,
If its internally balanced like you say, your old flywheel will work fine.

I second that - your existing flywheel will work fine with your internally balanced 383.
Enjoy your new motor.

Thanks for info.
I took a close look at the flywheel last night, and a few teeth are badly worn (broken). I should probably go ahead and replace it. Can I get a flywheel for my original 3-speed tranny that will also work with a future TKO 5-speed swap? Any recommendations on a good (and affordable) manufacturer?

Thanks again.

The flywheel ring gear can be replaced. Just hammer off the old one then heat up the new one in your oven and it will expand enough to drop it into place.
