I have an 85 Camaro Z28 that seems to have a serious electrical problem. The car has full power with the exception of the power hatch switch and it won't engage the starter. I found that the line running from the starter would tone if I toned it against a ground. I took off the firewall connection and it no longer toned (meaning the ground is happening somewhere in the interior and not in the engine compartment). I took the middle console out and it seems like almost every single wire I try tones against the ground. Anyone know of any common spots I should check? Are there any links or fuses in the interior that would cause this? I've been working on this for close to two months and can't seem to find where the issue is.

Thanks for any ideas!

You might try repeating your tone test after disconnecting all the connections to the computer, dash, console ect. I suspect your tone box is looping through power connections. You could also pull fuses and inject your tone on each side of the fuse socket to isolate the problem that way. I've never used a toner, so I hope this advice is useful - it may not be.
