I just has a general question. With all the trouble I have seen recently at auto plants, I was wondering why GM choose to make the camaro at two separte plant, CA and OH in the late 60's? It would be very difficult to get things to match between these two locations. It had to have been easier to build them all in MI and ship them by rail everywhere else.
Also, were firebirds made at both plant also?

I bet it was cheaper to ship parts to LA and then distribute cars to the Western states from there. They made almost a quarter million each of the first three years, and that was probably more than they were tooled up to do in Ohio.
This is strictly a guess.

Yeah, BPOS, from everything I've read, you're right on the money! They couldn't produce enough cars and have any kind of quality control at just one plant. And remember, GM was making them as fast as they could, having already lost ground in the market to the Mustang.
