I have been chasing a problem with my CI wiring setup and found that if I attach the relay to the firewall like it is supposed to be the contacts stick closed in the relay and that inturn keeps the solenoid plunger out. But, if I let the relay dangle freely, not grounded, everything works as it should.

What have I done wrong? Isn't the relay supposed to be ground to the firewall?

you should also have a relay on your throttle bracket it will close and open as it pushes in on the firewall which in turns gives power to your relay on the firewall by the heaterbox.
