haven't been around much:

when looking for a house, what was the requirement for the realtor? there was only one, seriosuly: 3 car garage!!!! People think I'm wierd, being 19, and "needing" A three car garage, but I got two cars(bought by myself), and will probably have a third when I get the Camaro paid off!

So, I found a house, it's a new construction, but been completed for a while. 3 car, full brick(low maintainance). it was the builders first house in the neighborhood, so it had most of his "upgrades"(it's got some cool new age insulation called "Xcell") to show what he could build. . not in teh location I was aiming for but I can drive a few minutes extra for work. Upon the advice of many I wnet ahead and had a full inspection done by a guy I hired, and he was so impressed with the quality, he started looking at houses for himself by that builder later in the day! It really made me feel good about my choice! I close on it on the 24th!!!!

So my planned mods are on hold of course, I have to furnish the thing , and that is going to cost quite a bit, but now I'll have plenty of room when I start upgrading the brakes and rear end, and the attic is massive, so I'll have plenty of space for my "spare parts"(they are starting to annoy my dad at home)

And for those of you with "dang yuppie kid" on the tip of your tongue, I'm finanicing it myself, not even a cosigner.

Congratulations!

I could use a 3 car garage myself (already have 3 cars and I'm 23), but it will be awhile before I can afford a house unfortunately. Prices here are crazy!

Buying a house is a smart move- wish I had done it at your age, then I'd already be done with the payments (other than a life long commitment to pay property taxes)! Good to have the three car garage too, I sure wish my 3/4 car garage was a little bigger (more of a shed than a real garage, but hey it keeps the Camaro dry and shaded).

I have 3 car garage. Unfortunely, it is not connected to my 2 car garage or on my property and costs a 150/mo. Bright side, no property taxes being paid directly to the uncle sam. Phil

Property taxes fund your county, not our Uncle Sam, but we get your point. :)

you know, I just realized, I am the only person in your myspace group for 'southwest first gens' LOL

congrats on the house, you could say I'm in the exact OPPOSITE situation, and at the rate real estate is climbing out here, I could be your neighbor soon LOL

I really lucked out. While looking for an inexpensive house in the country, stumbled upon one with what was listed as a "workshop" in the back yard. Little did the realtor know that this meant a 30X60 steel outbuilding, complete with plumbing and shower! The previous owner passed away, and used this building to store his RV. I wasted no time installing a 4 post lift. Even with all of my tools, etc. we can squeeze 5 cars in this bad boy. It already has terrific lighting, and built in storage rooms. Don't plan on ever selling it!

I feel that bro, I have the same problem here in Hampton, VA. 200,000 for a decent house is too much. I have to have at least a 2 car , pref 3 with a workshop or area to build one. AT least I will have a seperate place for a few benches, a computer(to ask the guys here for help.) and tools I use, but not alot.
Keep in there.

Sounds great SneakEyes!

Do it while you can.

I did a similar search for the house I am in now. I told the realtor it had to have at lease a two car garage, no HOA, and more than 5 acres. I wanted to be able to make noise working on my car at all hours of the night.

The main problem with some areas near big cities these days is the skyrocketing home costs. Town homes down the street from me in the middle of no where are selling for almost $600,000. Single family homes are close to $1,000,000.

I don’t know how anyone out of college could afford a home like that even if you make good money.

Thanks guys!!! I'm pretty excited, I'm locked in now and from an inspection I got the AC serviced, and will get full guttering for the builders price!

here are some pics....it's a one story, but you can tell from the pic what I mean by a big attic. If I wanted to fund it, I bet I could cutout the garage's ceiling and put in some lifts.....FIVE CAR GARAGE!!! lol, it'd be a loooong time before I could consider it

HOLY CRAP!! Nice house!!! (and Camaro in front of it!) I want your job!!!

Seriously, that looks like a really awsome start for you!! I've always liked brick houses, maybe one of these days I'll move back out your way and get one, they don't seem to be too popular around my neck of the woods...I think brick is pretty high around here.

As long as your realtor keeps his Harley out of there, you should be fine. :):) J/K. I don't have an answer to your question, but I had to comment on something. Nice house.
