View Full Version : radiator fan....

I just bought an 88 Camero V8 305 5 speed. The radiator fan does not kick on when hot. I know the motor of the fan works, new t-stat, new water pump, and new coolant sensor. The actual plug that plugs into the fan is broken (some of the plastic has broken off). I can also see some signs of that wire overheating at one time because the plastic wire sleeve covering the wire had melted some.

Another problem sign…in front of the radiator there is a group of wires that come together. The dark green wire gets very hot when car is running, but not hot enough for the wire to melt the sleeve. I know this wire does not go directly to the fan but I think it does have to do with the coolant system. I am not sure if the 2 cases are linked or not.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think I found the wire over heating problem....there is a large dia wire that was spliced with a smaller wire. The smaller wire is the one that was heating up, too much current for the wire.

Now for the radiator fan....Is there a switch or sensor that tells the fan to kick on?
