Alright I've got a 93 camaro I bought used and the power door locks have never worked. Neither passenger or driver side switch will do anything and they both feel pretty mushy. Before I replace the switches. What other points of failure are there. What else could go wrong to cause my power door locks to stop working? Any ideas are welcome, Thanks! :)

Gummed up old grease is the primary culpret. You can do a bit of checking before peeling open the door. Get a wiring diagram. You should be able to measure resistance through the lock solenoid when the switch is activated. You could also check the switch fairly easy before moving on to the lock mechanism and solenoid. But diagnosing without a schematic is like driving without a map and no recognizable landmarks to go by.

If the switches and lock actuators test good and the wiring seems to be intact, the next place to look is the "Body Control Module". This controls all of the body functions including door locks, remote entry, anti-theft system, retained accessory power. etc.

The GM service manual has excellent schematics of the system. You will definately need them.

I imagine the GM service manual also has a diagnosing procedure. I would think it would be possible to hot-wire the door locks from the connector to the body control module to isolate the problem. But you'd definately need the manual or a good schematic to do it.

WHOA, wait a minute..... I gave some bad information. GM didn't use a "Body Control Module" in a Camaro until 1996. I thought all 4th gens were the same but the guys in the shop say no. '93 and '94/95 are very similar, but it is '96 and up which are (basically) the same. There is a retained accessory power module, and a theft deterrent module that I think is tied into the doorlocks. I don't have the '93 book here so now I am guessing.

Please DO check the schematics, dnult is probably correct. You might be able to jumper the locks.

Sorry for bad info....Jb
