need some help. looking for a way to clean some light oil film and dust off a gold cad brake booster. tenative to try solvents or cleaners that may loosen the cad finish. i want to preserve the original finish. any help is appreciated. thanks!

Soap and water?

You can try a degreaser, like the purple stuff. I dont think it will harm the plating, but you can dilute it just to be safe.

You wont be able to "restore" the plating by doing this. Whats there is there. But you can at least clean it up.
