I finally got some specs on the cam in my 383 and am looking for some opinions on how it is in comparison to others/normal. It's a Compcam, 240/246 duration at 50, 507/510 lift. 2300-6500 RPM range. Now keep in mind, I'm challenged when it comes to this type of detail, and just learning. What other detail might you need to give me an opinion on set-up and how it should perform, etc. I'm apologizing in advance for any dumb questions or statements. Thanks.

Looks like the good ole XE 284 cam. They make great power in strokers. You just need to make sure you are in the 10:1 range and it will like a stall in the 3,000+ range.

Greg, the guy at Comp mentioned the Extreme 284, so your assessment is right on the money. I'm running 10:1. 411 gears, Speed Demon, TH 350 with 2800 stall. Car goes like crazy, but I haven't had it on the dyno yet. I'm kind of anxious to see what type of HP I have with this set-up. Thanks for the info.

Well, I had a very similar combo with SPortsman II's and a slightly smaller cam and I think that combo was good for a best of 7.75 in the 1/8th and 12.0s at Rockingham.

You should be very near that and I thought I had about 425 HP and 440 TQ at the crank. Take 20% off those numbers to get power at the wheels.
