Will the stock style exhaust headpipe on the passenger side bolt up to the manifold without using the valve or a spacer?

Thanks,
Gary

I dont belive the manifold has the area recessed for the doughnut gasket. Thinking you will need the heat riser installed.

Nope - you need either a heat riser valve or a correct spacer; the manifold outlet flange is flat, and you need one or the other to get the chamfer to accept the "donut" gasket.

The manifold I have is flat but does have a beveled edge for the donut gasket. It also has short studs which indicates to me that there was never a spacer or valve. These manifolds aren't stock to my Z but look the same as stock. I can provide a pic if anyone wants to see.

A stock motor had one!

And I bet you could pull your manifold and use an air grinder and relieve it to hold a donut just fine! May take a bit of time but bet you can.

Or install correct length studs with needed brass nuts and an old heat riser butterfly vlave but cut the butterfly out and weld/braze the two holes closed to make a correct spacer..

Been there, done that!!

Quick question, Those flanges go on with the curls pointing down or towards the manifold?

The flanges face away from the manifold.

Just finished my exhaust installation on my 69 Z and the passenger side manifold had a nice bevel on it for the donut. The headpipe fit and the donut sealed great. Pipe has good floor clearance. I believe you don't have to have the valve or the spacer, just the right manifold.
