I have a 69 Z/28 with a date code of V09IIDZ stamped on the pad. Were capital "I" used for the number "1".

Yes, the character "I" was commonly used in place of a 1.

There's an extra digit in that stamp, but "I" was very commonly used instead of "1". :thumbsup:
