Can someone tell me what the best kits are for performance reamo1 Jun 24th, 05, 05:11 PM For a 68 convertible!!! Eric Kammerer Jun 24th, 05, 06:23 PM As far as steering goes, if you're looking to replace the steering box itself, there's quite a few of us running a third generation box. Cardone 27660 I think, but I have to go check the box. Do a search in this forum for "power steering box". Lee Engineering sells a cheap kit that includes the right coupler and inserts to adapt from metric o-ring to SAE flare (original) PS hoses. I bought a master rebuild kit from Rick's for my rubber bushings, ball joints, and rod ends. All name brand stuff, decent price. I pieced together my own from the Moog catalog for the 68 when I did it. The 68 had Energy polyurethane bushings, but I didn't really care for them. Made the ride pretty harsh. I have Global West tie rod connectors (don't like those thin, bendy sleeves) and solid subframe bushings. If you want to change coils while you're in there, the Eibach Pro Kit springs are nice on a small block. Only 1-inch drop, so they look pretty stock and don't reduce clearance much if at all, and their 502 lb/in rate is in between a soft factory spring and the really stiff aftermarket springs. They'll go in the car without being compressed too, so all you have to do is get the old one out without killing anyone). I'm starting with Moog big block springs with a coil cut off on the 69. Of course, if you want "best performance", think about the Guldstrand mod or some tubular upper A-arms. I can't bring myself to drill or cut to do the Guldstrand, so if my 69 needs some handling help with that heavy big block, I'll change to tubular uppers. Almost forgot the front anti-roll bar. I ran the stock bar on the 68 with urethane bushings, and the 69 has an Adco 1" solid bar. reamo1 Jun 24th, 05, 07:46 PM Thanks Eric, Yoe seem to alot on this board. Thanks for the input Eric Kammerer Jun 24th, 05, 08:18 PM Yeah, I'm on here too much. BTW, that third gen box is Cardone 276550. I just tripped over the box in the garage. If you do a seach on Moog in this forum, it probably pops up posts with all the balljoint and bushing numbers. Prelude00782 Jun 24th, 05, 09:55 PM I have a 79, anyone tried those prothane kits? I'm more concerned about durability than ride comfort, I don't want to be replacing ball joints every couple of months. |
