In my restoration of my 68 R.S. I am installing a brand new tilt Ididit steering column and the guys who painted my car removed the original steering including rag joint, can anyone give me any advise as to what not to do to mess up my install ie: how to line up all the mechanisms? Thanks R..

What about the steering box as well as steering shaft? I believe changing to tilt steering may require changing of those, I know for my car I was ****ed because I spent $300 for an original GM steering shaft which had never been used but was for non-tilt, and then I found out my steering column was shot, so I had to get a new steering column and had I known I was going to be spending all this money, would have went for the tilt steering. oh well though. Just be careful lining the pins between steering shaft and column, it's a real PITA, especially considering there's hardly any clearance at least on my 79.

Unfortunately, I don't have the exact 1967-68 Camaro column installation instructions. However, the 1rst generation Camaro steering column connected directly to the steering gear similar to the C3 Corvette. So the two systems are similar.
First of all with both systems the steering gear is hard mounted to the frame(no adjustment possible). Also the upper end of the steering column (attaches up under the dash with three vertical bolts or nuts) and is also not very adjustable. The only place where you can make any adjustments is where the lower end of the steering column attaches to your floorpan.
The original flexible coupling for the 1rst generation Camaro had plastic spacers assembled on the stop pins. They assured that the flange on the lower end of the steering column attached squarely onto the flexible coupling. Once the column was installed at the car assembly plant, the plastic spacers were pulled off the stop pins and thrown away.
The following link will take you to a very complete paper on assembling the Corvette flexible coupling and steering column. Hopefully it is similar enough to your Camaro that it might be of some help.

I am in the process of doing the installation of my Ididit Tilt steering in my 68 now and the first obstacle allowing the complete install is the fact that the 4 holes that are in the bracket that holds up the column do not line up.it seems the column is .5'' too long. When I look straight down at the steering box I can see a .5" on the splined end of the steering column above the flex joint,as if the shaft was a little shorter the holes would slide down into more the bracket hole alignment. I am going to take the column to a buddies shop and he says he could cut it on a his band saw. I think this is my only option and I made sure to hammer in rag joint lightly with 2/4 and hammer and the column bottoms out. I was wondering if I have to change my steering box, I thought I read somewhere there are two types.Any body out there might enlighten me a bit?

Install complete and as it turned out I was required to cut 1/4" off the splined end of column.
